So far so good.....,
April 12, 2007
By dolphinspirit9

"I bought this cause my main pc was going to be down for a while but still wanted to print from laptops. Wish there was a disk included, glad there were cables though. Set up was tricky but I got it. I wonder why it has trouble printing from my ibook though, I have to power cycle it after the 1st page cause it gets hung up but will then continue (only from my ibook)
Item was packed well, and received fairly on time. I got my shipping notice by email almost a week after I had the product already, not the first time Overstock has done that. Way to be on the ball Overstock.
So far so good, wish it worked better with my mac hence the 3 stars."

Refurbished usually means it works....,
October 30, 2006
By greggdogg
from Syracuse, NY
"I bought this PS121(v1) despite having read all of the negative reviews.
After plugging everything in and downloading Netgear's awful software, nothing worked. Why didn't this come with a CD?
The program I downloaded couldn't find the print server. After doing a little research, I noticed that XP SP1+ (with Windows Firewall) wouldn't be able to recognize the server with the firewall enabled. After looking through their site, I noticed that it was a firmware problem, so I downloaded and installed the newest firmware, dated October 2004. Why wasn't this installed by October 2006?
I then continued using this archaic software. The code to this software is so old that individual programs are launched using batch files.
Finally, everything was set up. But it didn't print. From any of my computers. In fact, the server has a built in "TEST PAGE" diagnostic button. Even that didn't work!
So now I have an e-mail into Netgear's customer support (they won't give you phone support because this is a refurbished item) and am expected to wait "about 24 hours" for them to tell me what the problem is.
I have suppressed the desire to throw this thing out a window, and will box it up and ship it back.
What complete garbage!"

Great value, tricky to setup,
October 15, 2006
By John2006
from Pleasanton, CA
"1/2 retail price, great deal. However, no s/w included so you have to go to Netgear site to download. Read pointers about turning off firewall. Without turning off firewall, my laptop would have been unable to detect the printer. Second hurdle is software for client computer setup is in all o/s folder - make sure you run that to add printer to computer(s). After those tricks, setup has run great."

Good Economical Print Server,
September 19, 2006
By SteveA
from Chicago, IL
"Overall this was really easy to install if you follow the instructions carefully. The software easily found the printer on the network, however I had to use my laptop's built-in driver software to get it to become a "useable" option for printing. Once I figured that out I was able to install it on all of my PC's"

"Follow instructions as per manual, not a problem!! I have a wireless home network with 2 desktops and 2 laptops along with a VOIP telephone. I am able to print from all 4 computers to my Brother HL2040 Laser Printer. Great price even for a refurbished product. does not come with the installation CD but can download all the software (drivers, etc) from the Netgear. A non-techie like me figured it out...
PS - Follow the instructions!!"

Problematic at best,
September 10, 2006
By danl
from Cleveland, OH
"I spent a week trying to make this print server work, and ultimately stuck it back in the box and bought a different device instead. It printed a couple of times, mostly not. Sometimes it printed 1/3 of a page and then stopped. Sometimes it printed a full page, but of gibberish characters that made no sense. Sometimes I couldn't even ping it on the network."

Much better than printer sharing,
September 9, 2006
By DJones183
from Winston-Salem, NC
"This product makes it much easier to print from multiple computer networks especially if you are running both wired and wireless devices. There is very little setup involved and you do not have to worry about turning on a computer that your printer is shared on to print a document, your printer is always ready!"

Not Working right,
September 5, 2006
By Darknova
from San Jose, CA
"The item came through the mail very quickly but
there were no software or instructions to install it.
I was going to send it back but the shipping and
restocking charge seem like to much of a loss for
what it cost. So I will keep it for now and will keep
trying to get it to work. As I read other reviews I
think it is only a matter of time before I get it to work.
I will keep trying.

Easy to set up,
September 2, 2006
By googly

"I would have given it 5 stars if I did not have to get the manual and drivers off the internet, I only say this because I am still in the stone age:) "DIAL UP". Other than the need to download files it was super simple to set up. I bought a second one and shipped it to the bro. He also thought it was easy to set up, but had no issues with downloading, he has come of age and is on high speed:)."

Yes, it prints, but will it scan?,
August 30, 2006
By storageBob
from Ma
"One of the things that you have to dig out of the documents is the loss of functions when connected to "all in one" printers. With many printers, the print test page option is not supported and generates an error. You also lose the ability to scan. The software downloads from Netgear do NOT contain everything that is on the CD (that you do not get).
If you only want to remote a printer between two PCs and you can get around the places where the manual does not match the software, it is not a bad little box. I have not seen any overheating. It is too bad it does not work with a Mac which was my original plan. I would recommend it on price, but only under the conditions above.

Great product.,

"I've used the unit for over a year.Print server works great , but proper setup is a must for long lasting reliability. Use the included software to setup the print server with a static ip address (ex 192.168.0.52) , then login to your router, find the "Address Reservation" setup page and reserve the same static ip address you set the print server for ealier. This will prevent connection problems, such as another device on the network from getting the same ip address as the print server (which is very likely if not setup in this manner). Once thats done print driver installation is as simple as popping in a cd."
