Add the mystery of ancient Africa to your decor with Worldstock's hand-carved shaker instrument.
Native Africans call these instruments 'shakers' because all one has to do is simply shake them to produce beautiful music. Handmade by talented artisans in Kumasi, Ghana, these instruments are a common site at a variety of African festivals.
The Story Behind the Product
Nana was born to a family of 9 children in the town of Kumasi in Ghana, West Africa. His parents divorced when he was only 8 years old and Nana became so rebellious that his mother sent him to live with his father in Tamale (in the Northern region of Ghana) when Nana was 12 years old. It was there that he developed an interest in art. He dropped out of school when he was 14 and started training with a master carver in Tamale. In 2000 Nana began selling his products through Worldstock. Nana is now married with 3 children and lives in Accra, Ghana. He is now a master carver with his own shop and 10 employees. Nana¿s life has been so improved since he began working with Worldstock that he named his son after his contact at Overtsock.com.

Didn't get what I paid for,May 12, 2008
By amarillo1from Amarillo, TX
"Poor construction and quality. Already falling apart after less than 5 minutes of playing. Should be used for decoration only. Not a playable instrument in my opinion. I expected an instrument and recieved a display. Live and learn I suppose."

Ghana Shaker,January 10, 2008
By MrsWyliefrom Bowie, MD
"This is a nice sized gourd, dried and hollow, with a net containing shells attached at the wide end of the gourd. You can shake the whole thing, or hold the gourd still and slide the net & shells around the surface to make a different sound."

Handcrafted Shaker Musical Instrument (Ghana),January 3, 2008

"I saw this as a unique present to a friend of 30 years, easily found but very different… this as a great idea... he is a Native American and dances in Native American ceremonies in Oklahoma, there is always room for new musical instruments, especially from other parts of the world. He was pleased that I made an effort to find something special... Your world stock items provide that. Thank you!"

Real instrument,December 21, 2007
By kristyjofrom Wisconsin
"This is the same shaker that I have bought elsewhere for about $5.00 more. I purchased 4 of them for my school music program, and each one is unique in shape, but they all sound good. They are well made, and have the standard tone quality I expect from a good shekere. The shapes and sizes differed from the 'norm' a bit more than usual, including very curved handles and flat spots on the netted section, but it didn't affect the sound quality to my ears."
