Story Behind the Art

These writing journals are handmade out of 100 waru and lotus leaves, banana bark, bamboo paper, bean pod shells and twigs. They are sprayed with a wax type material so the colors will last, stay bright, and the natural materials will last forever. There are many artisans for this product as well as many other Indonesian products. For these wonderful journals, a small village in a remote area in Bali, Indonesia handmake these journals and sell them to us (importer) so that the money that is made helps support their living, family, and expenses. The village depends on us (importers and consumers) to purchase these to help them survive, be able to help raise their children and hope that they have better lives. The area is very poor but the people are very happy and content with what they have taking nothing for granted. They don't need more or less to survive.
