Story Behind the Art:
Artisans Orlando Paez and Mari Del Pilar Martinez create these beautiful lamps out of Raquira, Colombia. Guadua is a strong and resistant natural material from Quindio. The Guadua must be cut once a month before five in the morning in the waning moon, because that's when the water inside goes to the bottom and it's at its driest point. The fabric has been chosen for its flexibility, durability, non-shrinkage and easiness to wash, as well as the pyramid shape being a symbol for universal energy. There are 30 total artisans that help create these lamps.
With the money collected from the Worldstock orders Orlando has been able to send his daughter to school to continue her studies as well as English courses.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.

"I bought this item , and receive it soon. It was dirty and very hard to assemble, but beautiful. After one week it fractured from all wooden parts, and I returned to the overstock and they gave me credit for that.I do NOT recommend it to anyone."

"I absolutely love this lamp! The wood is much darker on the one that I received, which is great for me because it matches my dark hardwood floors. It took me a total of ten minutes to assemble. Easy instructions. You just pull out the parts that are already corded, slide the brackets open and stretch the fabric in between the bracket and frame. The fabric is washable, so any dirt can be easily removed. It has all the charm of handcrafted items. I put this one in my asian-themed living room, but am thinking of getting another one for the sitting area in the master bedroom. I just love the look, it is unlike anything you get in stores."

"I agree with some of the other reviews on the problems with the electrical connection - I had to return the first one I received. Having said that - the 2nd one has worked fine - I've had it for about 8 months now, and I LOVE this lamp!!! It is so unique, and so interesting looking - but not gaudy, and certainly not cheap looking. The wood is a nice dark color, the fabric stays clean, it stands straight upright and looks great with fine or casual furniture. I have used it in my living room and I get complements on it every time a new person comes over. It is a GREAT purchase!"

"I received the lamp in a timely manner from Overstock. The hand crafted workmanship was well done. The instructions to put it together was too basic and a little hard to comprehend, under traditional cirucumstances, but was simple enough in the end. It is a hand crafted piece so that should also be taken into consideration. Love the lamp in my living room and the atmosphere it creates. Would definintely buy another one. Thanks!"

"Wow do I love this lamp! It is not only a wonderful and unusual work of art but also a conversation piece. It is sturdy and provides a bright yet not overpowering light to my room and I love that it has both an upper light and a lower light. I keep the description about the 9 Columbian artists who make the lamp and how the special wood is "cut by the waning moon" nearby so I can share it with guests who enjoy the uniqueness of this lamp."

"This lamp is very impressive when lighted. It is rugged looking but the fabric shades tone down that ruggedness and gives it a classic feel. It would look good in many different decors. Mine looks great with my dark brown leather sofas in my eclectic living room. I would certainly recommend this lamp for someone looking for a rugged lamp. Workmanship and design are very good."

"I like the lamp, instructions are a little poor (on photo copy paper) I did not realize the switch was on the cord, so you need to reach to the floor to turn on. I added a toggle switch and wired it so the bottom lamp or both can be on."

"The lamp arrived the other evening and the box looked smaller than I imagined the product. Once I pulled it out of the box I was instantly impressed. The lamp is very uniquely crafted and easy to assemble. I assembled it myself in less than 15 minutes. The product did not come with bulbs, I'm currently using energy saver bulbs and they're working perfectly. I thought the lamp may have various settings, but there is only one. Very bright-maybe it's just my bulbs? Overall-I absolutely LOVE THE LAMP! It looks stunning in my living room. The fabric did have a few black smudges on them, but nothing that couldn't be cleaned off-they're hardly noticeable. I highly recommend this lamp!!"

"I like the unique look of this lamp and have gotten several comments on how great looking it is. What I don't like is at the top you can see the unfinished inside of the wood frame and the shiny silver nut that holds the cross support. Painting these dark brown is on my "to do" list."

"Great lamp, even though it did have some stains on the cloth. I still love it because it is not a traditional floor lamp. I put low watt bulbs in it to use it when we watch TV. Shipping was prompt."

"I liked the lamp when I saw it on overstock. i bought it, and it came just 2 days later. it's a little tricky to assemble. you have to make sure that the seams of the fabric match up to the wood and the X. As a previous reviewer suggested, i purchased the Philips DuraMax bulbs, and it works perfectly. The only downside to this lamp is that i can't find a table lamp that will match or compliment it. if anyone knows of such a lamp, please let me know!"

"I was hesitant at first to order this artisans's lamp, especially after reading the few reviews about assembling and electrical problems! My wife is from Colombia from the manizales region. I visited there and took a trip to the rio areas where the guadua grows and I was striken by it's beauty and strength! I had to have a show piece from that area! No regrets !!! It was more than I expected and very easy to assemble, we love It!!!"

"I read the reviews before I received the lamp and was a little apprehensive about what to expect regarding assembly. I don't know how 1 person could do it by themselves. A trick we learned rather quickly was to put the seam of the fabric onto the pointed stick apparatus and then ease the pointed stick with fabric into the slots. We tried stretching the fabric up to the slots and then putting the stick in place, but found the other method far easier. The fabric was pretty clean - we were pleased - didn't have to wash it before putting it together. Everyone who has seen the lamp has been very complimentary. A great conversion piece to be sure!"

"I really loved this lamp. It was easy to assemble and has a very nice look. However, after ordering it twice on both lamps the bottom light did not work. I think the lamps should be inspected prior to shipping to reduce the necessity of returns. I am quite sure it is a minor problem but it is very inconvenient and disappointing to have to return it. I will not try for a third time."

"I've been looking for this lamp for a while. Read the bad reviews and good ones. I got it anyway. It came in 4 days after my order, I should have ordered it back when I first saw it. I like the look and light that comes from the lamp. I am surprised at not only the look but function as well. I like it both on and off. It was easy to assemble, I'm over 6 feet which may have made it easier. I could see what I was doing.. I didn't have problems with the bulb not working or even stains on the fabric. The fabric comes with a plastic cover that you can cut off after you assemble."
