Story Behind the Art:
Artisans Orlando Paez and Mari Del Pilar Martinez create these beautiful lamps out of Raquira, Colombia. Guadua is a strong and resistant natural material from Quindio. The Guadua must be cut once a month before five in the morning in the waning moon, because that's when the water inside goes to the bottom and it's at its driest point. The fabric has been chosen for its flexibility, durability, non-shrinkage and easiness to wash, as well as the pyramid shape being a symbol for universal energy. There are 30 total artisans that help create these lamps.
With the money collected from the Worldstock orders Orlando has been able to send his daughter to school to continue her studies as well as English courses.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.

"I liked the lamp when I saw it on overstock. i bought it, and it came just 2 days later. it's a little tricky to assemble. you have to make sure that the seams of the fabric match up to the wood and the X. As a previous reviewer suggested, i purchased the Philips DuraMax bulbs, and it works perfectly. The only downside to this lamp is that i can't find a table lamp that will match or compliment it. if anyone knows of such a lamp, please let me know!"

"I was hesitant at first to order this artisans's lamp, especially after reading the few reviews about assembling and electrical problems! My wife is from Colombia from the manizales region. I visited there and took a trip to the rio areas where the guadua grows and I was striken by it's beauty and strength! I had to have a show piece from that area! No regrets !!! It was more than I expected and very easy to assemble, we love It!!!"

"I read the reviews before I received the lamp and was a little apprehensive about what to expect regarding assembly. I don't know how 1 person could do it by themselves. A trick we learned rather quickly was to put the seam of the fabric onto the pointed stick apparatus and then ease the pointed stick with fabric into the slots. We tried stretching the fabric up to the slots and then putting the stick in place, but found the other method far easier. The fabric was pretty clean - we were pleased - didn't have to wash it before putting it together. Everyone who has seen the lamp has been very complimentary. A great conversion piece to be sure!"

"I really loved this lamp. It was easy to assemble and has a very nice look. However, after ordering it twice on both lamps the bottom light did not work. I think the lamps should be inspected prior to shipping to reduce the necessity of returns. I am quite sure it is a minor problem but it is very inconvenient and disappointing to have to return it. I will not try for a third time."

"I've been looking for this lamp for a while. Read the bad reviews and good ones. I got it anyway. It came in 4 days after my order, I should have ordered it back when I first saw it. I like the look and light that comes from the lamp. I am surprised at not only the look but function as well. I like it both on and off. It was easy to assemble, I'm over 6 feet which may have made it easier. I could see what I was doing.. I didn't have problems with the bulb not working or even stains on the fabric. The fabric comes with a plastic cover that you can cut off after you assemble."

"I really like the lamp and it is very attractive,but it looked as if it were a second The fabric had some small stains....not terrible but it didn't look crisp or fresh I was able to place it so the stains were hidden, But I seriously considered returning it. I was disappointed in its condition and thought I should have been told that it was a second. If it wasn't it sure looked used"

"I saw this on line at Overstock and read the reviews before buying it. I got a little nervous because some of the reviewers said that the lights work, then one didn't or it didn't work at all.First of all, I love this lamp. It's so exotic and when you have it lit up, it's really just beautiful.This is what I have discovered and must share with you... After I set it up, I put a light bulb in each end. Plugged it in and it didn't work. My heart broke and I said.....I guess I got the one that didn't work and was ready to send it back. My husband had a thought. I originally put in GE Reveal bulbs, they didn't work....we then put in Philips DuraMax and it works fine. He had this thought because our outside light by the front door wont work on a Reveal Bulb, only the Philips. So if you get the lamp and it doesn't work, try a different bulb and bulb maker. Something about the threads on the Reveals that don't seem to jive right with certain sockets."

"I assembled this lamp last night (extremely easy). It is very nice and has a wonderfully unique and contemporary design, and looks great in my den/study. "This is such a unique lamp, I just had to have it. I was a bit confused at first with the construction but after I figured it out, it was a snap. I too had a problem with one of the sockets. I had no problem with the first socket but it took thirty minutes just to get the bulb screwed into the second socket. Finally I got it in and it worked fine. I've had many compliments and I like it so well, I just ordered another."

"I love the look of this lamp! It is, however, definitely a two-person assembly job...at least for me. After struggling to get it together correctly, the lower light wouldn't work and I thought I would need to return it. I found out that it isn't a case of the sockets not working, but they don't work with every light bulb. Odd. Some bulbs work in them and some don't. And it wasn't a case of the bulbs being burned out or defective. Buyers might try different bulbs if they are having trouble with the lights. That worked for me and I didn't have to return the lamp. I am not recommending it only because of the socket situation."

"I decided to take the chance of the lamp not working like several of the other reviews said. The lamp looks fantastic! There are a few spots on the white fabric but the look is so great that you don't notice it. The bottom fixture worked at first but then we put in another bulb so the top and bottom would match and neither work now. Hoping to just redo the wiring or adjust the fixture. The price is high for the electric part not working....but it does look amazing."

"I ordered this lamp and love it. The assembly was very easy (there were two of us). The cloth does have a couple spots however they don't look horrible and I have not tried to wash the cloth yet. The lamp looks much more expensive than it was and I would definitely recommend!"

"This lamp scared me at first. I thought the bamboo would break, but its as sturdy as they said it would be. The lighting assembly could be a little tighter and the housing for the bulbs requires a delicate insertion or you won't get it to light. Overall I am pleased and it gets a lot of compliments. The shade had a few marks on it, but I will chalk that up as uniqueness of the fabric"
