Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns - Nine Inning Boxed Set (DVD)

BASEBALL: A FILM BY KEN BURNS--NINE INNING SET is the complete nine-volume PBS documentary on the history of baseball in America from the country`s preeminent documentarian, Ken Burns (THE CIVIL WAR). Each individual title, or inning, is available separately; they are OUR GAME, SOMETHING LIKE A WAR, THE FAITH OF 50 MILLION PEOPLE, A NATIONAL HEIRLOOM, SHADOW BALL, THE NATIONAL PASTIME, THE CAPITAL OF BASEBALL, A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME, and HOME. Each set is a fascinating examination of the history of the game, told through the eyes of those who played it, those who watched it, those who wrote about it, and those who dreamed about playing it.

"More than 10 years after this was released this set by Burns does a great job of covering the history of baseball in this country from the 1840's to the mid 1990's. The pictures and stories make for great entertainment, and really provide a great perspective and historical backdrop to some of the issues one would hope get attention by Burns in some future update---"the clear", steroids, baseball's cover-up and subsequent outcomes. Still a great set and one that will remain a real must for baseball fans- was really worth the investment!"

"if you love baseball, you will absolutely love ken burns "baseball." it is divided into nine "innings."
it traces the history of the game from the 1700s' to 1994.. it reveals that, in fact, abner doubleday DID NOT invent the game, in cooperstown, n.y; but was, first played in staten island n.y.
it pays homage to "americas pastime'", from the time it was caled "town ball,", to "base,", then "ball," to "base-ball,", with the hyphen.
for the baseball pureist, who, like me, hates the dh, indoor baseball, artificial turf; who longs for the day when there were just two leagues, when the world series was played in the daytime. this is the dvd set for you.
for todays generation, it will open your eyes to the days when baseball was played , simply for the love of the game, not outragous six-year,, eighty-million-dollar contracts.
for what it's worth, george f. will would make a great commisioner!
