The Story Behind The Product
Chucam is a small farming village located in the Department (County) of El Quiche, Guatemala. The community is located about 3 miles away from the town of Chichicastenango, but the road to town is not paved and access to the village becomes difficult during the rainy season. The families of the community are very poor, but the women know the ancestral art of weaving and use it as a supplemental income to provide a better life for their children. In 2001, eight Chucam families banded together to form a weaving cooperative to make beautiful patchwork quilts and other embroidered textiles. Their incomes have doubled if not tripled, and dozens of additional Chucam families have become involved. More importantly, the men don't have to leave for months at a time looking for work in the sugar cane fields and many more of the village?s children are able to stay in school.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.

"I have never written a review on anything before though I shop online all the time. This quilt is breathtaking! I gasp when I opened it. The picture doesn't come anywhere ner doining it justice. It is vibrant, beautifully stitched. The perfect lightweight quilt for living in a warmer place or for topping a down comforter. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quilt in this style"

"we are using it as our bedspread over a down comforter. Very calming and peaceful colors- like deep water. We're using deep burgundy sheets and it looks so beautiful. Seems very well made with good quality fabrics and has loops on one end if you want to hang it"

"When I received this blanket, I was a little unsure if it would be warm enough since it is not very thick. It surprised me! We have a blanket underneath it on the bed and it is just enough to keep you warm. We have wood floors and tile throughout our house so it can be drafty. This blanket is perfect! The colors are beautiful, making for easy decorating with almost any color pillow you prefer. I would have liked for it to be a bit bigger so you could make the bed with the sleeping pillows underneath, but I put bigger pillows over them in various colors, and it looks good. The workmanship on this blanket is superb! You won't be sorry!"

"This quilt is not very thick, but it is beautiful! I will probably hang it on the wall with the attached hanging hooks. I was in Guatemala recently and this is just like the ones that I saw there - but this one I didn't have to carry around.I like that this came from a cooperative. I saw several in Guatemala and while their products tend to be a bit more expensive, I like supporting them. All around a great product."

"I absolutely Love this Quilt. Colors are Beautiful. Well made. Has gone through 2 washes and dry, already. We have dogs, and they sleep on the bed also. Not little dogs either. Pitbull, and beagle, Plus cats. had this for aprox. 1 month plus. I'm assuming, it will stand up to many more. I will change to a delicate wash, though, to make sure I preserve the colors, and over all, condition of this quilt. Don't hesitate to purchase this. You'll Love It :)"

"I live in Hawaii, and Overstock wouldn't mail to my address, so I had it shipped to my daughter in NYC who then brought it to me on her trip back home for a visit. The quilt lived up to its description and quality. It was exactly as I expected. The blue colors are incredibly rich looking. I already threw it into the washer and dryer, and it came out as fresh looking and beautiful as it originally looked. We're using it on the bed in the guest room. The colors of the quilt are actually inspiring me to paint the room itself. Great purchase.P.S. - This note is to Overstock.com...Hawaii is one of the 50th states and should be included among all of the states in your service mailing regions."

"The quilt is lovely. It adds a colorful, cozy look to my bedroom. I have been using the quilt since receiving it about a month ago and enjoy looking at it every day and sleeping under it every night. There is no inner padding in this quilt so another blanket may be needed during cold weather. I am glad that I bought the quilt and recommend it to others."

"I truly don't think you could get any better price at many of the mercados in Guatemala -- and believe me, I looked!! I got the blue queen size quilt, and it's beautifully made, and really a work of art. A one-of-a-kind, handcrafted work of art, for the price of an everyday bedspread. I highly highly recommend..."

"First the good. I bought the rust colored one a few years back and loved it so much I bought it again. The blue color is very nice too. Has an ethnic elegance that is above the cheap touristy schlock. The quilts are really covers as they are not thick, but do look great on the bed. Remember, layers is what keeps you warm! The bad: Like some quilts, durability is an issue. Wash it carefully. As it is made of several different woven fabric patterns, the more ornate ones are fragile. Second the color does run quite a bit. I bought the rust one again since it faded so much over the years. The fade was a nice look, as it brought out the native pattterns in the fabric before the overall dye job. That said, expect it to look quite different with washings. Overall: For the money you can't complain and it does look great. Buy the king size even if you have a queen bed, as it seems to be undersize and does shrink a bit with washing."

"Hubby and I have separate rooms, but had to sleep together the first night in our new house because the furniture wasn't set up yet. He coveted my queen-sized quilt and actually begged to sleep with it later with his king. To get mine back, I ordered him his very own king-sized quilt. We love them. We enjoy the bright colors, the weight isn't too heavy, and the price can't be beat!"

"This quilt was purchased as a gift for my daughter that has strong ties to the Guatemalan area. It arrived on-time, in beautiful condition and the quality of both the the quilt top and backing is superb. It comes with loops for hanging as artwork if desired and makes a warm and beautiful bed cover as well. Highly recommended!"

"I was thrilled by the jewel colors in the blue quilt! Rich, well-made, quality materials and a nice weight. Also, the size matched the description (I ordered queen). My husband was in awe of my choice.
