"This is a beautiful Christmas operetta, and it's wonderful to finally have it on DVD. However, it was definitely not recorded in 2005. Rosemary Kuhlmann was a member of the original NBC television production in 1951 or 1955, and this is a DVD transfer of that performance."

"Great operaetta, even for those who don't like opera. The quality of the video was not that great, but it was filmed in the early 50's. Someone ought to remaster it.
I saw this for the first time when I was 5. My brother went on to perform it when he was 12...I will always have wonderful memories of this piece by Menotti."

"This DVD fills a long need for a good Amahl to be available for home viewing. The high quality B/W copy of the 1955 performance shows Menotti's own hand in the production of a quality presentation. Amahl stands right next to the other classical nativity stories. The available clossed captions are valuable since the orchestra occassionally drowns out the soloists."
