"I bought one of these from a store last year. I only used it once but compared to to an aluminum back country shovel at twice the price. This shovel is a little lighter and smaller perfect for backpack and car. The bright orange color makes it easier to find when you drop it and have to find it in the snow. Another thing I like about this shovel is that you can take out the middle section replacing the handle for use in small spaces such as hollowing out a quinzee or snow cave something that I can not do with my other aluminum shovel. Last winter the plastic collapsible car shovels have all broken the last one in camping where it could have been a big problem. I was surprised to find this one on Overstock.com and ordered 4 so each of my family and camping friends have a strong reliable shovel for their cars this winter and beyond. I also look forward to this winter and using a shovel that I don't have to worry about breaking easily."

"Haven't had to use it yet...which is a good thing.

It's a little small, but good to have none the less.

"I would rate this shovel a 4.5 only because you need to take the collasible off before storing it in your pack. But hey for the price it's well worth considering since most snow shovels of this tyeo costs $30-$50 more."

"I bought this shovel for backcountry use. I have not used it yet but seems to be a great deal. Im planning on using it for winter camping, climbing and skiing and compared to shovels like this one, the only big difference I see is the price, this one being about half the price. Looks like a thumbs up deal."

"I haven't actually used it yet, but it snapped together well and solid. This isn't big enough to replace your garage snow shovel - but in a pinch will work find to dig your car out or a snow cave if you are backpacking it in the backcountry. The handle snaps into blade with two spring locks. The handle then telescopes out and locks into place the same way. The only design complaint I have is when disassembled, the two pieces do not have a way of attaching to one another to keep both pieces together in a compact unit. Otherwise it is a great tool for keeping in your SUV during winter ski outings."

Perfect!, October 8, 2008
By Spinashio from California forest

"I live in a wilderness area and I rely on Overstock for nearly everything I need, as supplies are not locally available. It is impossible to imagine how much one depends on a good shovel in these living conditions and this one has proven to be a blessing! It is lightweight but solid and well made.
Larger shovels are impossible to have handy and this Back Country Shovel from Overstock is ideal to carry around to carve a path through deep snow in the winter months and the adjustable length of the handle makes it excellent for summer cleanup and general gardening projects. I have been amazed at how strong this shovel is and the way it is designed offers surprising versatility.
