Story Behind the Art:

Some of the favorite recycled jewelry items are the 'dancing girl' pins and earrings, made of recycled phone cards by craftspeople in Kisumu, Kenya and finished by TEMAK. The sign for the Teenage Mothers Association of Kenya (TEMAK) indicates that it is 'the last house towards the Obunga slums, the most destitute area of Kisumu. Many of the unwed mothers and young girls who come to TEMAK to learn job skills live in these slums. As a community center, the organization also provides the community with an educational forum for HIV/AIDS awareness and other health issues.

"Packaging of earrings was fantastic! The earrings *are* cute & whimsical, but I personally am not pleased with the color combinations I received. However, I knew that I would be receiving something colored-differently than what was pictured. I think this WorldCraft program and Fair Trade stuff is wonderful and I fully support it, so I will wear my earrings (if I can find clothes that match) proudly :)"

"I was surprised at how quickly these earrings arrived. Very cute and whimsical. Figures are just slightly over 1 inch in height. What you see in the picture is what you are going to get except for color differences in beads and dress. Nicely packaged if purchasing as a gift. You will not be disappointed."

"I like to wear quirky earrings because they make folks smile and sometimes start a conversation. These fit the bill in every way but if you have long hair or wear a high collar they have rough spots that will stick to them. So while they are fun they are not well made and for the price won't last long I fear. I still like them but can't recomend them. I still like to support 3rd world countries so will keep shopping world stock."

"I love buying art and jewelry that directly benefits the artisan. These uniquely fun and environmentally friendly earrings really fit my need when I recently went searching for inexpensive gifts for my sister and niece. I loved them so much I ordered a third pair for myself, They arrived with a little note about the artisan group they benefit and the recycled resources they use to make their jewelry. Each pair is well matched but differerent enough from the others that you could buy and wear a different matching pair depending on what you wearing or how you are feeling. They are light weight and I have had several copliments on how "fun" they are "dancing" from my ears!"

"I received compliments about the uniqueness, vibrant colors, and overall appearance of the product. The earrings are an appropriate length; however, the bottom of one of the earrings did catch a knit sweater that I wore. I adjusted the curvature of the area of the earring that caught my sweater to resolve that issue. Overall, I am completely satisfied and happy with the purchase."
