"Set up was simple and it has worked great ever since. Be prepared to use the users manual for some of the more advanced features (not really a big suprise there). I would have liked to be able to personalize the "main menu" more, but I decided that wasn't very important when I saw the refurbished price I could get this model at. I've been very happy with it. No Regrets!"

"I was really wanting a DVR that would record 1080i "over the air" broadcasts, but nothing is readily available yet, so I bought this to get me through. My old VHS broke down, didn’t want anymore of that. All the features and programming are easy; the video quality is NTSC poor, since you are at 480P. The up conversion is a joke, because you can't get something from nothing. The up-converted 720P or 1080P look worse than standard 480P since DSP artifacts are readily apparent, especially between sharp contrast zones of the picture. Bottom line, it will do for catching a show you don't want to miss, but don't expect 1080i HDTV results."

"so far i am very pleased with this recorder. i was nervous about whether or not i'd be able to hook it up myself, as i am usually quite inept with these types of things. however, the instructions were pretty straight forward and was able to do most of it myself with only a little assistance from my husband. the instruction manual is fairly user friendly with only a few sections i wasn't sure applied to my hook-up or not. overall i would definately recommend this product for your basic recording from t.v. as that is all i have used it for so far."

"Not Compatable with my Cable Box, It's a real shame, this is a really nice unit. Works great & records great...the channels I can get BUT I can only record what ever channel is on at that time. that's it. Called both Phillips and Comcast. Tried set up many different ways. Used a splitter direct to cable, works fine but can only schedule to record basic channels. I have an on demand with a Comcast cable box, My TV is not HD. After talking to both Phillips & Comcast, ( two phone calls to Comcast) I found out this morning that Comcast will not allow the channels to pass through the DVD Recorder because they offer a DVR at $15.00 extra dollars a month. THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE! If there is any way around this before I return the DVD recorder e-mail post here. I am very upset with Comcast and I'm stuck with them because of a contract; they suggested I use a VCR. If you do not have a cable box, it's a great deal, if you do and don't have a HD TV, contact them first before you purchase this or any other recorder. Thanks"

"I have had many ATSC DVD recorders including LG 787T, Samsung DV650, Magnavox, and the Philips 3505 and 3506. The Magnavox was bad on arrival, one of 2 LG787T went bad shortly after arrival, the samsung went bad after about a year. The easiest and most effective of the lot were the Philips 3505 and 3506 which are easy to program and due a good job of recording as I record 6 hours of Digital and Analog from cable television on each DVD and the quality of the output is quite good. They are good at the price for the refurbs and arrived in like new condition and I purchased the service policies from Overstock and they have been quite good in honoring them."

"Refurbished unit works well. Timed recording is more complex than previous Samsung DVD recorder I owned.

It will take more time, (owned only 2 weeks) , before a good evaluation can be made on performance of this unit.

A message that it is making disc compatible with other DVD players every time I delete my recorded program is confusing. Why make it compatible when it is being deleted?
