Iranian Tabriz Hand-knotted Red/Navy Rug (9'11 x 13'3)

This artfully woven rug was created in the ancient Iranian city of Tabriz. Capital of the northwestern province of Azerbaijan, Tabriz has for centuries enjoyed a great reputation as a center of Oriental culture. Over the centuries Tabriz has developed from a naturally favored oasis at the foot of the volcano Sahand, to today's commercial center. Since the 11th century it has been one of the most important rug-weaving centers in the world. Tabriz Persian rugs are among the most beautiful and legendary carpets ever built.
One of the finest eras of Persian rug weaving was the Safavid period, which started in 1502 when the Safavids overthrew the Turks who had captured Tabriz. They made the city into an artful and poetic center of Persian culture. And of course this meant producing fine rugs. Today, many rugs produced in Tabriz are attempting to follow the incredible artistry of the Persian Safavid rugs. Tabriz managed to keep these ancient traditions alive, in spite of all the conquering and political restructuring. This intricate rug features a red background, navy border, with accents of ivory, green, navy, light blue, sunflower, and camel.

"This rug is gorgeous. It looks wonderful in my room and the colors are vibrant. The edges are a bit wavy because it is hand knotted but I have been told my friends who own very expensive Persian rugs, that this is very common in hand knotted rugs."

"Liked the carpet. Was very decent quality for the price. My middle medalion was orange not red in the picture. Don't expect very expensive carpet but decent carpet for a great price. Was not able to find another carpet of this quality for this price other than here. Please also note that fringe is a bit rough looking (very short and not refined, which worked fine for me - aparently better for not sticking in vacuum cleaner)"

"The colors are vibrant. The rug actually looks really good. I wish I can keep it but the tassel on this rug is so weak. My 9 month old baby keeps tugging at it with her hands."
